Structural Steel Fabrication Process
The structural steel fabrication process involves the use of a skilled workforce using a large range of equipment from welders to plasma torches to water jets. FEM has a facility that is 30,000 sq/ft with overhead cranes and fork trucks to ensure a smooth flow of work can be maintained.
Each job that comes through the door is examined using a technical review to ensure that the project can be completed to the correct specifications on time and on a budget. Upon an order being placed the metal fabricators will work from detailed drawings created by draughtsman to transform steel sections steel and plate into an item that can have a purpose throughout the world.
Our team of trained welders, to BS EN 287, then carry out the required welding process adhering to the relevant weld procedures and best practices. Upon completion, the final product will be inspected, and final non-destructive testing will take place where required.
Once the product is complete a decision will need to be made on the best protection applicable to apply to the steel to meet the required specifications. The final stage in the process is to deliver the steelwork to the customers’ required destination, FEM works with a specialised haulage company who move products throughout Europe.
Why choose Structural steel?
Compared to other metal elements, steel is cheaper and stronger and this makes it more affordable and much more opted for homeowners. However, some firms sell at high prices to new homeowners.
To avoid such exploitation it is important to do thorough research of what is available in the market.
Structural steel plans are usually pre-fabricated before they are brought to construction locations. Pre-fabrication lessens the amount of job that could be done during construction hence the building takes less time to complete. It is such an advantage that makes steel the best to use for your structural constructions.
Use of some materials other than steel, for example, wooden materials, provide needless nuisances during maintenances. Wooden material is prone to bug attacks and breaks easily when exposed to natural calamities. During repairs of such materials, it becomes a real hassle and most companies or individuals are forced to replace the structure altogether. Steel, on the other hand, is easier to repair and lasts for a very long time comparatively.
Besides being a sturdy and reliable option, it also looks neat and elegant if designed creatively through the use of design software before it is being prefabricated. Using steel is also environmentally friendly since it can be re-used and recycled. Also, less energy is used during the production of steel thus carbon production is low or not present at all.
